We are just a stone throw away from Ketchikan. Our last port in Alaska.
The last days we sailed many miles. We stopped at the leCombe glacier, the southern most tidewater glacier here. After a foggy start in the morning we were blessed with a warm sunny day. We took the dinghy and went strait for the ice of the glacier. We climbed onto the solid ice, hiked around and.. Off course harvested a few pieces for the good night drink later..

From here it was only a few miles to Petersburg. We needed groceries and heard that Petersburg is a lovely little town. So we stopped there for the night. The Wrangell Narrow, how they call the little channel between the two islands Mitkof Island and Kupreanof Island, has one of the tidal currents the Inside Passage is known for. We anchored on the west side in over 5 kn of current. It looked like we were still under way..

Up to Petersburg we did over 10.000 nm with ZERO since we left the boatyard. The log showed 10.011 when I finished the daily logbook entry.
Wow. 10.000 nautical miles within 16 month! That’s a lot of sailing. Half of it I did SOLO..

Petersburg is a lovely little town. And with the sun shining all day it felt like Norway.
Sailing the narrow was nice. We left with the tide and sailed with the genua up and the current pushing us. Rebecca marked every buoy we passed in the chart, and there were plenty. It’s a good marked waterway. In the middle of the channel the current shifts. The plan was to be there exactly when the tide is shifting to get the current pushing us again. We missed the point by just 20 min. We were too fast. But the current was down to 0.2 kn so not a problem!

Out on the ‘open water’ again, we entered the Clarence Strait. The wind picked up and we were flying over the cold water of the Clarence Strait in the south of the Inside Passage.

With gusts just over 20 kn ZERO did 8-9 knots dead downwind. And in a bigger gust we did an impressive 10,5 kn topspeed.

Time to reef..

With the sun ☀ and the wind sailing couldn’t be any better!
Tomorrow we’ll check out of the USA in Ketchikan and then..

say hello to Canada..!
Aloha

The last two days we had luck with the wind. Yesterday we could sail in a light breeze but later today we were flying  We had a nice breeze with up to 20 kn and even going dead downwind we were doing around 8 kn, occasionally going over 9kn and peaking in a fabulous speed with 10,5 kn!!
Time to reef!

The sun was shining the whole day and sailing couldn’t be any better..

Aloha
