Yep. The rudder is definitely broken.
I dove down today and I could clearly see the rudder is separated from the shaft. It’s still a mystery to me how that happened but it’s a fact that it’s broken.
The two bottom hinges are still intact and hold the rudder in place but there no contact to the shaft.

So it was the right decision to return immediately yesterday.
When the wind picked up this morning I set sails and took in the drogue.
We’re now sailing with all canvas set towards Kauai. Despite the rudder thing it’s a pleasant day out on the ocean with a steady 12-14 kn breeze from NE and sunny weather.
Now that we’re doing around 5-6 knots I will be back to Hawaii soon. Hopefully I can sail all the way to the south tip of Oahu.. But the forecast says different. There are some southerly winds coming which means no good for me..
Anyway.. For now all is good and I’m heading back.
