When I left Cordova I had to cross the orca inlet. The chaets say only navigate this waters around high tide and with local knowledge. I hot the local knowledge from a couple fisherman and sailors and left 3 hours before hightide

Some areas where so shallow I slowed down to 2 kn and I reached the Pacific after 4 hrs cruising through shallow waters. The sandbar which divided the ocean from the inlet had huge breakers on it and I was very happy to make it without hitting the ground.

But..

The wind which was promised by the weather gurus wasn’t there.  We barely had 5 kn and it took ages for me to reach the next destination. I stopped at Icy Bay for the night after spending 1 night rolling out there. The next night I arrived at Yakutat. It was the first night which was actually dark. Damn! Bad timing.

I anchored in front of one of the islands and wanted to check the area with the dinghy next morning before bringing ZERO to close to the shore.

I’m docked at the little harbor now. I have 3 days left to clean ZERO and tied her up to present her in the nicest way to the returning QUARTERMASTER.  Rebecca is coming on Saturday,  yippee!

So my SOLO SAILING CARREER comes to an end..

Yakutat is a nice little village with around 500 souls living here. There is very little cellphone coverage and almost no Internet. Especially not for at&t customers like me. So I’m using a friend’s WiFi to post this and hope it’s getting through..

Tell you more soon..!

Aloha..

  1. Hi Christian glad to hear the quartermaster’s coming back… When you are at Old Harbor Alaska and called customs and they seemed easy going I was worried. They are very two-faced. Thus wasn’t entirely surprised to hear the difficulties. I highly encourage you to make haste and get the heck out of the states where you can. Be a good idea to let them know you left right when you’re crossing the border if anyway possible to. The primary reason I’m writing this so as to give you a heads-up about the problem and getting a Visa to go down the West Coast. With what has happened I doubt that’s going to be easy and they may make you wait several months without any guarantees. Youmight consider Rebecca with crew sailing it down and you flying to Mexico. That or stay off shore far enough to be in international waters
