we had an awesome sail to Oahu. With 20-25 kn from around 90 and later 140 degree ZERO cut through the water with 6 kn.

we left Mokai at 7 am and arrived in Waikiki at 3 pm.

image image image imageBecause we’ve seen pretty much no other boats when we sailed around Lanai and Molokai we were shocked by all the traffic here in Honolulu.

Started with 2 coastguard vessels and 1 Helicopter who were doing a search and rescue operation for an 16 year old boy we had to face tons of charter boats as soon as we rounded diamond head.

We helped the coastguard with a sharp lookout but couldn’t find any sign of the boy.

After our anchor was set we went ashore. Because the Ala Wai harbor is just half mile away we dinghed into it and left the dinghy at the aloha dock from the Hawai Yacht Club and walked  to legendary Waikiki beach.

What can we say..?

we were absolutely SHOCKED!!

its ridiculous! High rise hotel right next to the beach  on some hotels there is a tremendous beach of barely 10 meters left?!

Some don’t have any beach at all!?

I expected the architecture on the front row to be as bad as let’s say the French coast but this tops everything. It’s like beeing in Vegas except there is an ocean close to the hotels. hopefully this is just in a small part of Honolulu and we started at the worst place  so it’s only getting better tomorrow!

good night to all Americans and good morning to the Europeans!!
